MediaStor™
MediaStor is a product designed for the broadcast market that combines highly reliable
storage technology with specialist software designed to store, manage and move media in
a fast and efficient way.
MediaStor acts as a big fast buffer between all your specialist servers. Because MediaStor can transfer data between most well known servers it can store material from ingest, transfer media to and from the edit suite and transfer data to the playout server as required, as well as archive to, and retrieve from, tape storage devices without the need for middleware.
MediaStor combines TeraStors, Suitcase TV’s high reliability near-line FTP servers, with the Aqua suite of software applications to achieve this cost effective alternative to traditional broadcast solutions.
Multiple TeraStors are networked to achieve the desired amount of storage for your media. Expanding the size of the MediaStor is as simple and
easy as just plugging in another TeraStor on the network. The management of the content
is taken care of by Media Manager which runs continuously on the TeraStor nodes.
Aqua Suite of applications include modules to:
- Manage and control ingest from traditional media sources
- Manage and control ingest from file based sources
- Browse stored media
- Reformat for 3G/NVOD IP streams
- Interface with third party automation systems
- Transfer media to/from third party servers and accommodate third party file formats.

MediaStor Facts
- Multiple TeraStors make up the storage platform.
- Each TeraStor, or node, offers 6, 8, 10 or 12 Terabytes of usable storage
- MediaStor is completely scalable – simply add another TeraStor.
- Data transfer rates of more than 600Mb/S per node can be achieved and the transfer bandwidth increases with each TeraStor added.
- The high-speed transfers use open-industry standard FTP communication.
- MediaStor integrates directly with tape storage without needing middleware to optimise speed and efficiency e.g. Quantum i2000 Tape Library.
- Integrates with third party servers such as Omneon, Seachange, Quantel, SGI and Avid.
- Multiple redundant databases, co-located on the TeraStors, store the media metadata.
- Options include: integration with automation systems such as Omnibus, Pebble Beach and Harris Automation.
- MediaStor is completely compatible with the Aqua and MediaXchange range of tools to create a truly flexible broadcast solution.
