Splice is a powerful but easy to use tool for creating Edit Decision Lists (EDLs) or for performing simple edits of video content.
Because it is a desktop application, performing pre-edits using Splice will leave your expensive edit suite available to be used for craft editing.
The intuitive GUI has a video window that can be resized or moved to an adjacent monitor. The navigation controls are the familiar rewind, play and forward controls using variable speed and frame stepping, plus clip in and clip out for marking the start/end of a clip.
The same actions can be performed with shortcut keys, which can also be reprogrammed to suit the user.
But the powerful feature is that Splice will work with most video formats and resolutions by streaming the video from server without retaining a local copy. This means that you can create an EDL using your low-resolution browse copy and view the virtual edit sequence remotely before publishing the sequence.
When you publish the sequence you decide which format quality of resolution you want to create and the new programme is created and stored automatically at the server location you select - including directly on an Avid or Quantel for final editing.
