Suitcase TV Delays Time
Thurday 25th September 2008
Suitcase TV has launched a new range of TimePlus delay servers that enable high quality video to be recorded without compression, preserving the full integrity of VBI information.
The TimePlus servers are billed by the company as being ideal for running programme services across multiple time zones, or for providing +1-style services.
Suitcase TV Technical Director, David Atkins said: "At first glance, using uncompressed video may not seem particularly significant, but our customers have repeatedly told us that the benefits of preserving VBI data such as widescreen signalling are important to their broadcast operations. TimePlus is based on our tried and tested 'TeraStor' technology and means that we are able to offer an ASI as well as an SDI version of TimePlus for anything between one and 50 hours of delay."
Complex VBI data can suffer from degradation when exposed to the slings and arrows of compression algorithms. The ability of TimePlus to retain data integrity in an uncompressed form via Suitcase TV's 'TeraStor' mass storage device - designed to provide highly reliable, cost-effective storage for exceptionally large volumes of high quality video - means that broadcasters can ensure the highest possible picture quality without fear of VBI data corruption during recording, storage and distribution.
